Alberta Brown, VTI, Class of 2009

As a Scholarship holder of the START Foundation and as part of my voluntary activities, I take part in an annual mentoring program „START-Mentoren für KIKUS-Kinder“- START mentors for children KIKUS (“KIKUS – Kinder in Kulturen und Sprachen “which means Children in Cultures and languages). The START Foundation which motivates students with a migrant background by awarding scholarships cooperates with the Siemens Foundation supported by the Centre for Childhood multilingualism - “Zentrum für kindliche Mehrsprachigkeit e.V. (zkm)” to promote multilingualism at an early age. Under the motto "be there for each other and learn from each other" I support children with a migrant background between the ages of five to 10 with the methods developed the Centre for Childhood multilingualism (Zentrum für kindliche Mehrsprachigkeit) to learn German as well as their language of origin.
